Career:
Samuel Leroy Jackson was born on December 21, 1948 in Washington D.C. born. He grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee and began his theater career there.
He came to the theater as a child on the advice of his therapist because he had a stutter as a child.
It helped, and Samuel was so excited about working on stage that after graduating from college he went to drama school in New York and trained to be a professional actor.
After successfully completing school, however, progress was very slow and the large orders were a long time coming. From time to time he got roles in the theater but his wish to come to the screen did not come true.
When things finally picked up again and Jackson was offered a feature film, he was in bad shape and struggling with drug and alcohol problems. For this reason, the offer was withdrawn and the theater no longer wanted to see him on stage.
Something had to change and so Samuel L. Jackson went into rehab.
After getting his life back on track his career took off and he got his first role offer. He played a drug addict opposite Wesley Snipes in Jungle Fever. It was not really surprising that he offered a convincing performance and even won Best Supporting Actor at Cannes.
Jackson was fascinated by Hollywood and was keen to make a name for himself here. So he took on a lot of supporting roles for a while and thus made a name for himself in the film industry.
In 1994 the time had come and his dream came true. Through the Quentin Tarantino film "Pulp Fiction" he went down in film history as a rhetorical and convincing killer with the cold and thus became a star overnight.
The role garnered him many awards, including a Golden Globe nomination. Thus, his breakthrough in Hollywood was made and he was popular as never before.
Like his colleagues Wesley Snipes and Laurence Fishburne, Jackson was now also one of the most sought-after actors of color, but unlike his colleagues, he is more diverse and versatile.
So his subsequent career stretched from arms dealer in the film Jackie Brown, to violin specialist in the red violin, from underwater explorer in the film Sphere to wise Jedi Knight in Star Wars Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3.
His streak of success just didn`t want to end. He always managed to surprise the audience with a new side of him. You could see him in the action film SWAT in 2003, a year later in the thriller Twisted alongside Ashley Judd and in the sports drama Coach Cater. He has traveled a long way and shown us what he is made of.
We can look forward to further projects.
