Hen Night

Hen Night

Originally, the hen night, also known as the hen party, took place in the bride's parents' house a day or two before the wedding. The celebration was organized by the bride's friends, who decorated the living room with pink garlands. The mother of the bride, the mother-in-law and all female relatives of both families were invited. The bachelorette party usually began in the afternoon at teatime, when tea was served along with cakes and tarts, most of which were pink to match the garlands. As the hour progressed, sparkling wine and white wine were also offered.

At a traditional hen night, the bride received gifts from her girlfriends, sisters and future sisters-in-law that were decoratively wrapped in pink and contained mainly lingerie, cookbooks or baby-related items.
A popular topic of conversation was the choice of wedding underwear with which the bride wanted to surprise the groom on the wedding night.

Since the 1990s, this traditional hen night has been supplanted by the new form, based on the stag party.
Today, women usually celebrate their bachelorette party with a pub crawl and usually dress up in costumes or hen party t-shirts. The bride-to-be is usually not in the know and is surprised by her friends that evening. At the bachelorette party itself, the bride-to-be has to solve all kinds of games and tasks.

The latest trend in the "Hen Party" is now being celebrated over a long weekend. The weekend is then celebrated either in a larger city in Great Britain or in warmer regions with sun and sand.
