Krewe of Bacchus

The Krewe of Bacchus took its name from the Roman Winery Bacchus named and is a relatively young Krewe. It was only founded in 1968. The Krewe of Bacchus is considered the most innovative Krewe today. They are known for their parade on Carnival Sunday evening with the largest and most animated floats. The Krewe of Bacchus was the first krewe to allow anyone to join their procession. With more than 1,350 members and 33 animated floats, the Krewe of Bacchus is considered one of the most spectacular krewes in New Orleans Mardi Gras history. The Bacchus parade is musically framed by several marching bands.

History of the Krewe of Bacchus

Owen Brennan, Jr. is considered the spiritual father and founder of the Krewe of Bacchus. He wanted to liven up Mardi Gras. His idea was to set up a krewe that would give every citizen the opportunity to take part in the parades, contrary to the traditional closed societies such as krewe of comus. He also introduced that every year a celebrity is named Bacchus and rides on the King float.
