Postmodernism

Postmodernism is an art epoch that lasts from 1978 to the present day. The artists had the goal not to let any profound thoughts flow into their pictures, but to create works of art that were as sensual as possible. With the pursuit of illusion and turning away from reality, many of the artists broke with tradition. Many were also more interested in marketing their pictures than in the art itself

The German painter Gerhard Baselitz belongs to the well-known artists of this development. His pictures are primarily characterized by the fact that he painted the motifs upside down. The goal is to distract from the subject matter and draw the viewer`s attention to "painting as painting".

In the postmodern style, space was to be created for the free expression of ideas. The principle of postmodernism was not intended to create innovations in art, but to reconnect existing styles or ideas and create something new from them.
