PHP

PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) is a scripting language that allows website developers to create pages with dynamic content that interact with databases. The syntax is similar to Java, C and Perl. PHP applications are typically found on Linux servers and in conjunction with MySQL databases. PHP is easy to learn and exists for both Unix and Windows. Also, PHP is free to purchase because it`s open source.

This scripting language was developed in 1995 by Rasmus Lerdorf. Back then, PHP was still called Personal H home P ages T ools. As the WWW (World Wide Web) grew rapidly towards the end of the 1990s, interest in scripting languages with which it was possible to generate dynamic websites grew steadily. Because of this, PHP over time became more popular than Perl, which was considered the standard up to that time. In November 2006 the latest PHP 5.2.0 was released. However, PHP 6.0 is already under development. PHP differs from JavaScript in that it is a server-side interpreted language. This means that the source text is sent to an interpreter on the web server and not directly to the browser as is otherwise the case. The advantage of this is that no special skills are required for the browser and therefore no incompatibilities can occur. The visitor has no access to the PHP source code, because it remains on the server. Only the generated data is accessible to him.
