Ninja

Ninja

The term ninja or shinobi refers to partisan fighters of pre-industrial Japan. The beginning of the ninja era cannot be determined exactly, but the main time was between 950 and 1600 AD. The ninjas were hired by the princes for secret operations, among other things as assassins, saboteurs, spies or scouts, which is why they were also called "shadow warriors". In contrast to the samurai, who were known for their code of honor, i.e. not carrying out the "dishonorable" activities of the ninjas, the ninjas had the advantage of choosing their clients themselves. You can say they had more freedom of action against the samurai. But they were by no means heartless and headless killers, there were taboos for them too. For example, they were not allowed to injure or even kill a religious dignitary. The weapons they used were just as mysterious and legendary as the ninjas themselves. The most famous weapon was probably the sword of the ninja, which they wore on their belts. But the sword was by far not the only weapon, although there is not concrete evidence for all weapons because many things have only been handed down, the ninja also used weapons such as knives, daggers, smoke grenades, blinding powder and chemical warfare agents according to these traditions. The history of the ninjas has always polarized people, they were also the subject of countless Hollywood films that didn`t always really conform to the real facts.
