His amateur boxing career began at the age of 14, he won 112 fights as a beginner and suffered only 6 defeats. In 1993 he became European Junior Heavyweight Champion and in 1994 second at the World Junior Championships in Istanbul. There were a number of other victories, but his greatest amateur success came at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, when he became the first "white" boxer to win the gold medal in the 200-pound weight class.
At the end of 1996 Vladimir Klitschko fought his first fight in the professional league and, apart from a few defeats, he has been successful again and again to this day. But Vladimir Klitschko is not only active in boxing, he also takes part in various charity projects, including for children in South America, Asia, Africa, Brazil and Morocco. For this commitment, he and his brother Vitali were honored by UNESCO as role models for success, education and fairness. As a further award he received in the year
2005 the Bambi in the "Sports" category.
Since 2007 he and his brother have been running their own agency called “Klitschko Management Group GmbH”, the managing director is their manager Bernd Boente .
