Hammer

A hammer is a tool with which it is possible, based on the law of the lever, to increase the force of the blow, for example to drive a nail into a material such as wood. It consists of a wooden handle and a metal hammer head. This is flat on the face and wedge-shaped on the other side. There is a hole in the hammer head called the eye. The handle is attached in this hole. This type of tool was invented in the Late Stone Age and is therefore one of the oldest tools ever. Certain species of monkeys can now be observed using stones as a hammer-like percussion instrument.
Hammers are used in a wide variety of areas, such as driving a nail into a wall, deforming the iron when forging, or smashing something.
