Greenpeace (in German: green peace) is an international environmental protection organization founded in Vancouver (Canada) in 1971. With non-violent, direct and often unconventional actions, she wants to draw attention to environmental pollution and destruction worldwide and contribute to eliminating the causes. Greenpeace became known through actions against whaling and campaigns against nuclear weapons tests. Greenpeace is organized in 40 countries. The type and execution of the actions and campaigns are decided by an international Greenpeace Council.
Greenpeace Germany is based in Hamburg. The main goals of the activists` work are: preservation of biological diversity, agriculture without the use of genetic engineering, protection of the Antarctic, prevention of climate catastrophes, nuclear phase-out and the expansion of renewable energies.
