Ball thread

Ball thread

The ball thread is only partially similar to the normal thread, although it also consists of an internal and external thread, the external thread of the nut is equipped with balls (similar to a ball bearing) which in turn run on the grooves of the internal thread . This converts the rotational movement induced by mechanical energy into a longitudinal movement, and the nut runs up and down the lead screw accordingly. Although the manufacturing costs and prices are somewhat higher than with conventional threads, ball screws run more smoothly and show fewer signs of wear.
Areas of application for ball screws are mainly machine tools, injection molding machines and hydraulic presses. If workpieces have to be positioned, they are usually attached to the nut of the ball screw and then move back and forth or up and down with the nut on the threaded spindle.
