Career
Jean-Claude Van Damme was born and grew up in Brussels.
He started learning karate at the age of 11 and became a teenage middleweight champion of the European Professionals Karate Association.
He achieved black belt and also trained in ballet.
However, Jean-Claude had bigger goals and wanted to start his fortune in Hollywood. Unfortunately, when he arrived in the USA, things did not go as he had planned and so he first had to make ends meet with jobs such as carpet laying, bouncer or karate trainer.
One day he was lucky and the karate world champion Chuck Norris got him a small supporting role in his film.
His course was set and now he could finally do what he had come to the country for.
He made his breakthrough with the film "Bloodsport", which not only made him world famous but also his balancing act.
Action films are allowed to have history and a bit of depth, and so Jean Claude Van Damme gave the otherwise rather simple characters his personal touch with the film "Ohne Ausweg".
After that came his hit series of films, from "Sudden Death" to "Timecop" and "Harte Ziel" to "The Quest".
This last film was also his debut as a director.
All films became a success, which he intended to continue to expand with the following films "Double Team" and "Maximum Risk.
Unfortunately, his luck didn`t last through the new millennium and his films were released less and less in cinemas, instead always being released straight away on DVD.
Jean Claude Van Damme has an enormous talent for languages ??that fall under Flemish, German, French, Spanish and English.
