Paasmaandag (Easter Monday)

Easter Monday is a public holiday throughout the Netherlands. Its date depends on the date of Easter. Like the main Jewish festival of Passover, the date of Easter is determined by the lunar calendar. It falls on the Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox in Western churches.

On Easter Monday, the children compete with a whole basket full of colorful eggs. Armed with many different colored eggs, you try to hit the opponent's egg by hitting two eggs against each other without damaging your own egg. Everyone tries to break as many enemy eggs as possible. It is very important that only eggs of the same color can compete against each other. The winner is whoever holds the last intact egg in their hands.
