Sport Shooting

Sport shooting has a long tradition, especially in Europe. There have been shooting guilds in Germany and neighboring countries since the Middle Ages. After the lost World War II, all shooting clubs in Germany were officially banned by the victorious powers. It was not until the middle of the 20th century that people began to understand shooting as a real sport and to redesign individual disciplines accordingly.

Sport shooting is all about hitting a target with a sporting weapon exactly in the middle. A perfect interaction of body and mind is essential for this. Body control and inner peace, as well as concentration are absolutely important and must be trained.

The arrangement of the rings on a shooting target is called a "mirror". In most disciplines it is a matter of rings, where a maximum of 10 rings can be achieved. The closer a shot can be placed to the center of the ring target, the more rings the shooter gets.

Since the turn of the millennium, electronic measuring methods such as infrared light barriers have increasingly come onto the market, making the measurement significantly more accurate.

Sports shooters are organized in various umbrella organizations in Germany, with the German Shooting Federation (DSB) being the largest. With the exception of 1904 and 1928, sport shooting was always part of the Olympic program. The women have been taking part in separate competitions since 1984, before they could be integrated into the men's team.
