An early form of cricket can be traced back to the 13th century, in the 18th century essential elements of the game were further developed and cricket became a national sport in England. In the 19th century, the forearm throw was first replaced by the round throw and later by the upper arm throw. Cricket was also a sport of the 1900 Olympics, but only for 2 days. Efforts are being made to bring the sport back to the Olympics.

Cricket is a game of catching and receiving between a fielding team and a batting team, each consisting of 11 players. While the field team is completely on the field, only 2 players from the batting team are on the field at the same time. The game is based on a duel between the pitcher and the batsman. Although the gameplay and rules are very different, the basic concept is always the same. The starting team hits the ball as often as possible in its round and tries to run as many runs as possible to score points. The opposing team plays field and tries to stop the other team's passage. After each team has played the same number of runs, the team with the most runs wins.

The first German Cricket Federation was founded in 1913. The sport of cricket was very difficult to get off the ground and was only able to establish itself in Germany in the early 1980s. The new German Cricket Federation was therefore founded in 1988.

The most important international championships are the World Trophy, which has been held by the International Cricket Council since 1979 and can be equated with world championships. European championships are also held.
