Artistic cycling was already practiced in the USA before the turn of the century. At that time, the focus was on mastering the bicycle and riding a certain distance. In the meantime, artistic cycling has developed into a technical discipline that does not stop at sports physics and sports psychology in competitive sports.
The sport is mostly practiced in sports halls on a special indoor bike. A distinction is made between different disciplines, which are held in different age groups.
One and two-man artistic cycling is a competitive sport that places high demands on the athlete's technique and coordination. On the other hand, in four- and six-person artistic cycling, precise perfection, synchronized driving, team spirit and fast-reacting action are required.
The best starting age for artistic cycling is around 5 to 7 years, between 6 and 12 years the basic training is the focus of the training, and there is also age-appropriate technique and fitness training. Then, between the ages of 13 and 16, there is advanced training, and from the age of 17 the training effort increases significantly.
