Philology
Philology (ancient Greek: philologĂa = love of the word) is the science that deals with texts with historical, literary or cultural-historical content in a specific language and interprets them linguistically, historically, culturally-historically and socially.
In addition to classical philology, which deals with Greek and Roman antiquity, which is considered classical, there are now other sub-areas. This includes modern philologies (so-called modern philologies), which include English, German, Slavic and Romance studies, Oriental philology, philologies for America and Australia/Oceania and the comprehensive philologies.
