mythology

Mythology (Greek: mythoi = stories and legein = narration) is dealing with myths (ancient Greek mythos = sound, word, speech, story, fabulous story, fairy tale) of different peoples.

She deals with the question of the origin of myths and their relationship to other narrative forms such as legends, fairy tales, saga, epic.

In myths one learns something about the world view, about customs and customs, about life in general and about the values and norms of individual forms of society.

They provide information about the historical circumstances of past cultures. World events, natural phenomena, everything that was inexplicable to people, they packed into a myth. On the one hand, mythology serves to make the inexplicable comprehensible, on the other hand it served to convey values and norms.

So many stories showed how badly people fared who acted against the will of a god and suffered terrible punishments as a result.

Insofar as the subject matter of the myths is viewed from a religious point of view, their investigation is closely linked to the history of religion. Information from myths is important for the reconstruction of religious ideas, which sometimes combine contents of different mythological origins into one system.
