Speleology also speleology
Speleology (Latin: spelaeum, cave; spelunca, grotto and Greek: logos=teaching) is colloquially called caving or caving.
It is the study of the formation and changes of the caves, of their hydrographic, meteorological and biological conditions as well as of the sediments deposited in them as witnesses of their geological past.
Speleology uses the working methods and research results of many neighboring sciences to explore and examine the caves. Another task of speleology is the investigation of groundwater in karst areas and the assessment of their threat.
