Glciology

Glaciology is the study of the formation, forms, effects and distribution of ice on earth. The properties and formations of ice and snow, including their formations as glaciers, permafrost and ice shelves, are also being researched.

Glaciology is an interdisciplinary field and uses methods from surveying, geophysics, meteorology, hydrology and climatology.

It originated in Switzerland in the 19th century as glaciology.
