Islam

Islam is an Arabic word meaning peace, submission, devotion, obedience and gratitude to divine grace. It is a monotheistic religion whose god is called Allah. Islam is essentially the same message that God revealed to all of His prophets. Along with Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity and Buddhism, Islam is one of the five world religions.

The main concern of Islam is the confession of the "Oneness of God" with all that follows from it. The central tenet is, "No deity but God," meaning that nothing can be equated with God. God alone is the absolute being independent of everything, while everything that exists depends on him. God is the only reality that creates and sustains everything visible and invisible, living and inanimate, out of nothing. God is above all sensory perceptions and rational concepts, but He is not separate from all creation.

Islam is not just a religion, but also a self-contained, legal and political value system. A separation of religion and state is therefore not intended according to Islamic understanding. Islam is based on the Koran, which is the true word of God for believers, and is considered the primary source of this religion. The second source of knowledge next to the Koran are the words and actions of the Prophet Mohammed.
