A singer is a musician who primarily uses their body (their lungs, larynx, vocal cords, resonance chambers) as a musical instrument. All of these organs involved in the production of sound are called the vocal apparatus. The singer allows the music to articulate words within the musical line. In this way, mental and emotional things can be expressed directly, which is what makes singing so important, especially for religious cults.

To be a singer as a profession, you must have studied at a music college, a vocational school, a technical academy, a conservatory or another singing institute. However, before studying, most schools have set the entrance exam. The intermediate maturity is standard for training at a technical academy, music academy or at free music schools.

For this, the Abitur or the subject-specific higher education entrance qualification is required as an admission requirement. A course of study at a university lasts at least eight to ten semesters.

Stage singers can train at various opera schools, for example at the Academy of Music in Darmstadt or at the Johannes Brahms Conservatory in Hamburg.
