Internet Protocols

One of the most important basics for exchanging data on the Internet are the so-called transmission protocols. These enable communication in the network between the various hardware components. Rules are defined in these protocols that determine the sequence of the components communicating with one another. This ensures coordination and regulated data transmission between the individual units. Data communication is a very complex process, so tuning is spread across multiple protocols. All these protocols together then determine the behavior of the data transmission.

Rules within the Data Connection Protocol (Internet Protocol) include, but are not limited to:
  • The addressing
  • Establishing the connection
  • The termination of a connection
  • Reconnecting
  • flow control
  • Positive and negative acknowledgments
  • The error detection
  • The error correction
  • Transmission mode
  • Transmission type
  • Transmission direction
Other points are: parameters, codes, block formation and the transmission formats.

These protocols are standardized by the International Organization for Standardization, or ISO for short.
