Internet access (Internet connection) is the connection of a computer or an entire network to the Internet. In order to connect the PC or the network to the Internet, a connection device for the data line and access authorization from an access broker (Internet Service Provider, abbreviated to ISP) are required.

Examples of connection devices are:
  • Telephone, modem and ISDN
  • Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)
  • Local Wired Networks
  • Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN, WiMAX, Bluetooth)
  • Internet via mobile phone
The cost of internet access depends on the provider. After the basic fee, which is charged by every provider, the user pays according to one of the following billing schemes:
  • by data volume
  • by time (time tariff)
  • unlimited (flat rate)
