Geomatics is an interdisciplinary subject related to the disciplines of geodesy, geography and cartography as well as geoinformatics. It is dedicated to the creation of spatial reference through the creation and modeling of reference systems and the collection, updating, presentation, management and marketing of spatial information (geodata, geographic information) using scientifically sound methods and procedures.

Geographical information forms the basis for the planning, design and sustainable development of our environment.

According to a study by the US Department of Labor, geomatics ranks third among the fastest growing technologies of the future (GIS-Business 06/2006).
