Prepositions were originally place adverbs/local adverbs. In addition to the local meaning, a temporal and/or figurative or figurative meaning often developed for each preposition.
Prepositions (or prepositions, forewords or position words) express relationships or relations between people, objects and/or facts. In inflected languages ??(like German) they belong to the group of non-inflectable words, i.e. they are invariable.

In the case of relatively fixed combinations of verbs with certain prepositions from the group of alternating prepositions, the case to be used cannot be deduced logically and depends on the respective connection. Combinations of prepositions and definite articles are called contractions.
