On July 22, 1946, the World Health Organization defined the word health as follows: "Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and is not the mere absence of disease or infirmity".

The value of health is often only recognized when it is lost or with increasing age. Older people in particular are becoming aware of the restrictions associated with the deterioration in their state of health. Women are usually more health-conscious than men, which can be seen from the participation in cancer screening tests, among other things. Also, privileged classes are generally healthier and have a longer life expectancy than underprivileged ones.

The promotion and maintenance of health does not depend on large financial resources, only the attempt to restore health can be expensive. Health is not just limited to physical aspects, but also includes mental and spiritual aspects.

Diseases often play an important role in health. An illness often wants to show us that we should be more health-conscious in our lives. Therefore, health and illness cannot necessarily be separated. Rather, they are to be seen as two sides of a distinction that are mutually dependent.

Here are some factors that have been shown to be important in keeping a person healthy:
