In Belgium, carnival is celebrated very differently from region to region. While a typical Rhenish carnival with women's carnival and Shrove Monday procession is celebrated in the communities of the German-speaking community in eastern Belgium, neighboring towns such as Malmedy and Stavelot have their very own form of carnival. In the towns of Ostend, Aalst and Binche, a separate carnival tradition has also developed.
