Insects

Insect / Insects with

Insects, also known as insects, are the most species-rich class of arthropods. Almost a million or more species of insects (from A to Z) have been scientifically described so far. This means that more than 60 percent of all animal species described are insects. According to various calculations, however, one expects a multiple of species, with several million undiscovered species to be expected, especially in the tropical rain forests. Insects can be identified as fossils from around 400 million years ago in the Devonian.

Insects are quick-change artists. A distinction is made between insects with an imperfect or a complete transformation (metamorphosis). Bugs, dragonflies and grasshoppers hatch from the egg. With each molt, the appearance more closely resembles the fully developed insect. This step-by-step transformation is called imperfect metamorphosis. Grasshoppers and bedbugs, for example, are among these insects. How often and how long such a larval stage lasts depends, among other things, on the temperature and the food supply.
